World-renowned sitar virtuoso Kartik Seshadri and internationally acclaimed sarod master Rajeev Taranath come together in a rare collaboration, accompanied on the tabla by Arup Chattopadhyay

Kartik Seshadri - composer, educator and foremost disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar - has collaborated widely with artists as diverse as Philip Glass and the Brazilian group UKATI.  Seshadri’s most recent recording was noted by Songlines Magazine as “sitar at its lyrical best.”  Rajeev Taranath is internationally acclaimed as a leading exponent of the sarod and is a distinguished disciple of Maestro Ali Akbar Khan.  One of the most sought-after classical Indian musicians as both a soloist and accompanist, the brilliant tabla player Arup Chattopadhyay is a premier disciple of Pandit Shankar Ghosh.

From the spiritual to the spirited, the hallmark of Indian classical music is the spontaneity and rapport of the improvisatory process.  This recital is in the form of a jugalbandhi:  a meeting of musicians on two different instruments in a unique collaboration exploring the moment of the performance, drawing on many years of technical training and discipline to create an experience of melodic and rhythmic rapture.

Produced by Agape International Spiritual Center.

A largely volunteer effort, based on the intention to utilize the arts festival model to build genuine community cooperation and understanding, the World Festival of Sacred Music is presented by Foundation for World Arts and UCLA Center for Intercultural Performance.
